Director

Becky Firestone

Meet Becky, the heart and compass of Beth Sholom Day Camp! With a Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University and a Master’s in Elementary Education from Hofstra University, she’s been shaping young minds in elementary and middle school settings for seventeen years in the Department of Education. A twenty-five-year veteran with BSDC, Becky has embraced many roles and is now thrilled to lead as Director. She’s all about sparking campers’ passions, guiding new paths, and nurturing friendships that last a lifetime!

Assistant Director

Dee Dee Horowitz

Say hello to Dee Dee, our Assistant Director at Beth Sholom Day Camp, who started her BSDC story as the drama specialist before taking center stage as Program Director. Now, she masterminds the logistics that transform summers into seasons of joy and connection. With a Master’s in Educational Theatre from NYU and a Bachelor’s in Theatre Arts from Stephens College, Dee Dee blends educational savvy with creative flair. Her rich background includes shaping young minds as an Early Childhood teacher at Forest Hills Jewish Center. A true BSDC enthusiast, she channels the camp spirit year-round, striving to make every camper’s experience as special as the one enjoyed by one of her two children, who is also a proud BSDC camper!

Program Director

Emily Tobey

Get to know Emily, our energetic Program Director at Beth Sholom Day Camp. With her academic background—a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Sociology minor from Adelphi University, plus a Master’s in Childhood Education—she’s well-equipped to craft an enriching camp curriculum. During the school year, Emily inspires the lives of first graders as a teacher with the Department of Education. Her own growth at BSDC is a storied one, blossoming from a camper to a CIT, then a counselor, a division head, and an office manager. Now, as she gears up for her 18th summer, it’s clear why BSDC is Emily’s slice of paradise; it’s here where she met her best friends, making it unequivocally her favorite place on earth. As we approach another joy-filled summer, Emily’s excitement is contagious, and she can’t wait to welcome new and returning campers to what promises to be the best summer yet!

Director of Aquatics

Jamie Haberstumpf

Dive in with Jamie, our Director of Aquatics, who’s set to make a big splash at Beth Sholom this summer! With a degree from SUNY Stony Brook, a master’s from Queens College, and over 30 years as a NYC teacher, Jamie brings a wave of experience to our camp. Not only has she been an Aquatics Director for 15 years, but she’s also adept in pool management, lifeguard instruction, and water safety, having overseen swim instruction for over a thousand students each summer at a large Long Island camp. Jamie is all set to channel her extensive expertise to ensure a safe, fun, and buoyant swim experience for every camper!

Director of Food Services

Lisa Parker

Serving up smiles and nutritious bites, Lisa ensures our campers are well-fueled for fun! Early in her career, she cut her teeth in Manhattan as a recruiter before taking some time off. She then made a fulfilling pivot to food services, where she skillfully managed the dietary needs of over 700 children across three locations at a large Jewish Day School for six years. Now, she’s the culinary maestro at Beth Sholom, adept at catering to a spectrum of dietary requirements, including kashrut. Lisa’s always eager to discuss the delicious and healthy food options that keep our campers energized for their adventures!

Co-Director Athletics

Josh Korder

Josh is one-half of our dynamic Co-Director Athletics duo at Beth Sholom Day Camp. With eight years under his belt as an elementary school teacher for the Department of Education and a lifelong dedication to athletics, he’s uniquely equipped to lead activities that blend vigorous exercise with pure fun. Doubling as our Head Tennis Coach, Josh is serving up ace experiences, ensuring every camper enjoys top-notch instruction and play. His passion for sportsmanship and teamwork lays the foundation for a summer full of energy and excitement!

Co-Director Athletics

Marshall Trager

Partnering with Josh is Marshall, our equally dynamic Co-Director of Athletics. Armed with a Bachelor’s from SUNY Plattsburgh and a Master’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, he channels twelve years of elementary education expertise into BSDC, all gained while teaching for the Department of Education. Marshall’s BSDC journey has been one of growth and leadership, starting with Sports Instructor, advancing to Division Head for Upper Camp, and now excelling in his current role as Co-Director of Athletics. In this capacity, he’s dedicated to shaping a program focused on skill-building, confidence, and a love for the game!

Upper Camp Girls Division Head

Robin Baum

Robin, a cherished East Hills (Roslyn) local for 25 years and a beloved BSDC mom, now steers the Upper Camp Girls with unmatched zest. After enriching the camp with her administrative prowess for a few summers, Robin took the helm as Upper Camp Division Head last summer, infusing eight weeks with non-stop fun and camaraderie. When not at camp, Robin’s heart is with her ECC students at Temple Beth Sholom, and delights in seeing them in a new light during the summer. With both her children having flourished here, BSDC isn’t just Robin’s workplace; it’s her ‘happy place,’ a sentiment she’s eager to share with every camper!

Upper Camp Boys Division Head

Ryan Feuerstein

Ryan, our Upper Camp Boys Division Head and CIT guru, knows sports inside out. A Temple University alum with a background in Sports and Recreation Management, he’s been part of the BSDC family for over 15 years. From camper to counselor and now division head, Ryan’s pumped to bring sports leagues back to BSDC. When he’s not at camp, you’ll find him working for MLB and teaching high school. If you’re a sports buff, Ryan is your go-to!

Lower Camp Girls Division Head

Nicole Gomes

Nicole is the heart and soul behind the Lower Camp Girls, bringing a decade of teaching magic from Kindergarten and First grade into camp life. With degrees in Elementary and Special Education from CW Post, Nicole’s passion for nurturing each camper’s unique spark shines bright. She joined the BSDC family in 2011, starting her journey as the Head Counselor for the Junior Camp and guiding our youngest explorers with kindness and creativity. Now, as the Lower Camp Girls Division Head, she orchestrates a vibrant summer canvas splashed with discovery, education, and constant laughter!

Lower Camp Boys Division Head

Jonathan Eisenkraft

Jonathan, our beloved Lower Camp Boys Division Head, brings a wealth of educational expertise to BSDC. Armed with a Bachelor’s in Communications and a Master’s in Elementary Education from Adelphi University, his passion for teaching is undeniable. Over fourteen years at the Hebrew Academy of Nassau County, he has taught 5th and 6th grades and currently inspires K-6 students with Science and Engineering (STEAM). Jonathan has been a cherished part of our family since 2010, evolving from a group leader to his current role. After a brief hiatus to welcome his first daughter (he’s now a proud dad to two), he’s back. Jonathan channels his enduring passion for camp into curating a summer landscape where joy, learning, and lasting bonds flourish!

Junior Camp Division Head

Lara Cohen

Lara is the cherished overseer of our Junior Camp, ensuring everything runs like clockwork for our littlest campers. Holding a Master’s degree in elementary education and serving year-round as a Pre-K teacher in Merrick, she has been a guiding light at BSDC for 12 summers. With additional experience teaching second grade, Lara absolutely loves working with young children. Her focus is to weave a summer tapestry that blends fun, safety, and the bright glow of memorable days for each junior camper!
